What is Pre-Lee?
The brainchild of Wendy Hatchell (Lakewood Heights) finally came to fruition after a year of grass roots efforts to educate neighbors and mobilize parents to choose the local, public option for their children's education rather than fleeing to the suburbs or private institutions. We love our neighborhoods and believe in building a strong community of families who support an exceptional school. Pre-Lee now has a Board of Directors in place, and we've been busy with plans for a new website, newsletter, play groups, parent events, and special programs in conjunction with the school this fall.

About the School
Robert E. Lee Elementary School was established in 1927, when school was held in a smaller school building facing Matilda. School started in the current two- story building in September of 1931 and the original school house was eventually demolished. Located at 2911 Delmar Avenue between Vanderbilt and Goodwin, the school feeds into J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School. Robert E. Lee is one of only two elementary schools in DISD with candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (both J.L. Long and Woodrow Wilson are also IB schools), and Lee also offers a Dual Language program.
In 2016, Principal Bert Hart was enthusiastically welcomed to lead Robert E. Lee. Mr. Hart is very familiar with our neighborhood schools, having taught and/or led at JFK Learning Center, Stonewall Jackson, and Lakewood, and is extremely interested in working with Pre-Lee and other community partners to build stronger relationships with the school's neighbors.
